Tik Tok Austin

OVERVIEW:

TikTok’s newest office in Austin, TX boasts four floors of large workspaces and floor to ceiling windows that reveal aerial views of the iconic Colorado River. Our job was to work with TikTok and Interior Architects (IA) to bring in the creative, vibrant, and rapid culture of TikTok and combine it with the quirky personality of Austin. We worked along the architect’s theme of “Life Along the Colorado River” and grounded it with emphatic nods to TikTok’s ability to empower connection, create a ripple effect on culture, and hold space for every kind of content and user.

SCOPE:

  • 4 Floors of Brand Installations

TEAM:

Principal: Mark Levine
Project Manager & Senior Designer: Andrea Parker
Designer: Sierra Shih
Designer: Jonathan Jardin

Cement stained topography in the elevator lobbies on all four floors correlates to the topography of the section of the Colorado River the office is nearby. On either side of the lobby, large rippled art pieces with the TikTok and ByteDance logo welcome you into the office while also acting as wayfinding elements.

CNC and painted MDF art pieces that showcase the TikTok and ByteDance logo within a rippled surface to highlight TikTok’s ability to create a ripple effect on culture. The water theme also ties to architectural details throughout the space.

“Bringing in the creative, connected, rapid culture of TikTok and combining it with the quirky personality of Austin and architectural theme of ‘Life Along the Colorado River’”

Dimensional painted and chromed paddleboards with engraved brand statements. Working with the architects to highlight the theme of “Life Along the River,” we paid homage to the water activities frequented in Austin while playing with an aerial view to show how many individuals coming together can create a larger picture.

A complete brand moment showcasing thousands of resin links clasped together to create the TikTok logo. The links refer to TikTok’s ability to connect millions of people around the world across shared interests.

Custom designed and woven beach towels layered into monochromatic pillars. As another reference to “Life Along the River,” these beach towels have hidden messages, icons, and brand statements, that all layer together to a colorful display to show how the most everyday things can create something great.

Dichroic squares quilted together with 3D printed connectors. The squares contain stop motion illustrations of viral TikTok dances as well as UIUX icons within the app. The quilt of color changing acrylic pays homage to the constant motion and speed of TikTok while reflecting the architectural water and sunset theme.

A sculptural twist on the client’s request for biophilia. Each floor’s amenity space showcases a sculptural tree with different material leaves dangling from the ceiling on each floor. The leaves are made of acrylic, denim, 3D printed SLS, and felt to create variation and also act as a wayfinding element.
